My trip is officially off and running! I guess technically at this point it was yesterday that I got on my plane to Taipei, but it’s felt like one very extended day, so close enough. I’ve arrived safely to my hostel and am already busy chatting with other folks from all over the world. I’ll have more stories to share soon. I’m pretty wiped as I’m writing this and just trying to get things down quickly today, so please forgive any mistakes, unclear statements, or formatting issues. I promise these will get better as I go. I’ll also have more longer posts coming on my website throughout the coming weeks as I settle into my rhythm of writing.
It’s been a full last few weeks. I finished my last day at work. I moved out of my apartment. I drummed for my first live gig in ages, and I had a blast. I had my last day volunteering for L’Arche. And I’ve said many goodbyes to friends and family. I don’t have pictures of everything, but here’s a few of my favorites from the show I did.

As the trip has approached, emotions haven’t quite hit the way I anticipated them to. The night before I flew out was the first time it really started to click in my brain about the scale of the change that’s taking place. As much as I’ve prepared, there’s only so much that can be prepared for. I’m not sure exactly what emotions will continue to pop up and when, but I’m confident that they will. If I’ve learned anything from my time in therapy over the last few years, it’s that emotions are incredibly sweet and sacred, no matter what form they take. So I’m excited to see what comes and to be able to share both the sweet and the challenging feelings with you all.
Speaking of you all, I’m honored that you want to be a part of this with me. I’m truly grateful that you’re here. I hope that in addition to staying up to date with me, this newsletter is a place you get tangible value from, whether that’s travel inspiration or promptings for your own reflection.
Leaving has had me reflecting on my time in Seattle, and the aspects I’ll miss most about being here. A few of the things that came to mind were:
- Mt Rainier in the skyline while driving across the bridge
- Friends & family
- My church
- Playing music
- Riding my bike, and the natural beauty everywhere I look
- Summer. Playing volleyball, being on the water, really just being outside in any capacity
Some of these I’ve done a better job prioritizing than others. I wish that I had thought about what I’d miss sooner, so that I could have been more intentional about prioritizing those people and activities.
My encouragement to you would be to think about the same question, wherever home is for you. If you were to leave, what would you miss most? Are you spending your time actively being engaged with whatever comes to mind?
Well there you go, my first ever newsletter. I’m excited to share my journey with you. If you’re curious to know more about anything I shared, please reach out. If you know anyone that you think would be interested in anything I’m writing about, I’d ask that you consider sharing this with them.
Thanks for being here. Talk to you next week.
